Citheronia Regalis...preferred food source?

It could have been some type of sumac. Regalis is known to feed on plants
in the walnut family, sweetgum, sumac and some others. Sometimes it is
difficult to get larvae to switch from one known host to another but given a
little time they often will. Good luck.

Could anyone tell me the preferred food source of this moth? I captured a
larva (Citheronia Regalis) this weekend on a tree/plant that looks
remarkably like poison ivy but more treelike (it apparantly is not :) thank
goodness!! ). I have placed some Hickory and English Walnut in the cage.
It does not seem to be too interested in either. I will try some sweetgum
tomorrow. Unfortunately I am nowhere near the original food plant. Any
insight into the possible identification of the original foodplant or a
viable alternative source of food would be much appreciated!

Thank You!

Adrian
