To followup on Clay Taylor: The Raritan Canal Count (central New Jersey)
logged an equal number of Painted Ladies (V. cardui) and American Ladies
(V. virginiensis).
Over the years it is apparent that V. cardui is present some years and
completely absent in others as befits its erratic immigration patterns
elsewhere. But it has not been superabundant in recent memory, nor even
as abundant as the Red Admiral has been this month.
I'll post the full count in a day or so.
