How high were the monarchs flying above the water?
Was the horizon to the east visible or invisible due
to the curvature of the earth?

When I have seen monarchs flying SW across Lake
Tahoe in California in Sept. in headwind conditions,
the butterflies flew just a few inches
above the surface of the water.
