[leps-talk] Fwd: Interdiction of illegal loggers

Same old story:

1. The scope of the illegal logging was laughably small; i.e.
fifteen cubic meters of logs were found on one truck and 10 cubic
meters on the other truck.

2. The logging occured on the cold, northern slope of the Chincua
Reserve and monarchs never cluster on those chilly, shaded
northern slopes. So the illegal logging is not harmful to the monarchs.
My guess is the loggers know all this and therefore feel
no shame in cutting small numbers of trees which are not monarch
cluster habitat and not even close to monarch cluster habitat.

3. The logged patches of forest are not virgin old growth, but have
been logged for centuries and will grow back on their own to their
former stature in 30-40 years.
