Dear Friends and Colleagues:
After looking at "Butterflies of America" website, Gerardo Lamas once
wrote:

Of course it does not stop. And with Gerardo's help, we are trying to rise
to this vast challenge. To make a long story short, we give you South
America!
http://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/L/Neotropical.htm
This is a very preliminary version. Suffice to say it is missing skippers
altogether! But since there are so few free resources available on the
South American butterflies, we hope that it will be of use.
Most importantly, this online compilation of images almost entirely
consists of scans from print photographs taken by Gerardo Lamas
representing a lifetime of dedicated and imaginative research and a great
generosity in allowing them to be made available. The taxonomic lists are
based on Lamas 2004 catalogue and are being continuously updated to catch
up with recent developments.
Currently, this Neotropical web site covers the region from Mexico through
South America, while the "formal" BOA list
http://www.butterfliesofamerica.com/list.htm
is from Alaska to Panama (and the Caribbean). We are planning to merge the
two lists eventually, when the Neotropical list if fully updated. Please
exercise caution in exploring the Neotropical web site, it contains many
errors and omissions, don't take anything you see there in faith.
Happy surfing,
Andrew D. Warren, Kim Davis, Nick V. Grishin,
Jonathan P. Pelham and Mike Stangeland
