Mendele Personal Notices & Announcements

June 31, 2010

To minimize wear and tear on the untershames, three requests:
1. Send time-sensitive notices well in advance.
2. Send material as plain text: no HTML, other coding, or attachments;and
write MENDELE PERSONALS in the subject line.
3. Correspond directly with the person who or organization which has
posted the notice, *not* with your ever-beleaguered untershames.

Subject: Song Khane Khaytin's song from the Shavl Ghetto

Song from the Shavl Ghetto

In a book forthcoming from the University of Nebraska Press, I would like
to quote from a song by Khane Khaytin (or Khana Kheytin, or Khane
Kheytin-Weinstein), who was a resident of the Shavl Ghetto. Her song "A
yidish kind" ("In a litvish derfl vayt...") is well-known. I plan to
quote from a
different song, addressed to the Jewish ghetto police.

Khane Khaytin is no longer alive. Does anyone know of an estate or heirs
who could grant permission for the quote?
