ANNOUNCES
The Position of
MUSEUM CURATOR
Salary Range: $13.42 to $20.17 (Step Range 40-55)
Available for consideration by all State Career Service and
Probationary Employees. This is a two-year time limited position
with benefits, which may become permanent. This position is located
in Vernal, Utah, at the Utah Field House of Natural History State
Park Museum. [THIS IS A PUBLIC RECRUITMENT].
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Responsible for acquiring, cataloging and storing all incoming and
existing specimen and artifacts in the collection at the Utah Field
House of Natural History State Park Museum; establishes and follows
schedules for routine inspection of collections, both items on
exhibit and in storage, to check for deterioration or damage; obtains
funds for collection care and management, research, and special
projects through grant applications and other fund raising
activities; provides technical expertise in the development of
exhibits and interpretive materials and programs; provides research
and interpretation on collections and issues relevant to the research
and interpretive scope of the museum; writes technical reports and
articles; coordinates special exhibits and programs; coordinates
group visitor activities, including those for school children;
conducts lectures and group tours of the museum; works in cooperation
with other agencies; supervises volunteer and seasonal staff involved
in curatorial and interpretive duties; assists in general
park-related duties including visitor services, janitorial and gift
shop operations; and performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills in the following areas: paleontology, geology, museum studies
with an emphasis in natural history museums/paleontology/geology;
collections management of natural history collections; public
relations; grant writing; public presentations; interpretation of
paleontology/geology to the public; coordination of group visitor
activities, especially school groups; supervise subordinate
personnel; identify and properly catalog natural history specimen and
artifacts.
Preference may be given to individuals with education and/or
experience in museum studies related to natural history,
paleontology, geology or collections management.
