[Nhcoll-l] Shipping (not hand-carries): logistical problems

Dear Ellen,
I would be happy if the SPNHC Legs & regs group could be in the loop
regarding FedEx.
You describe a very common problem because FedEx does per-import
clearance based on information that is entered in their electronic
declaration system based on entered data of commercial invoices. But
these are simply unsuited for proper import declarations of biologiccal
materials because it is not possible to enter basic information.
If there would be any discussion with FedEx (and UPS, if possible,
because it is a common problem), it would be helpful if we could address
this as global issue (and offer solutions how to handle our type of
biomaterials - see this mornings email regarding new CN-codes for
natural history materials).
If you summarize the number of specimens exchanges between museums
yearly, you end up well above 1,000,000 specimens, which is another
relevant figure for FedEx (compared to annual revenue), because they
want to have smart parcels & easy customs clearance.
All the best
Dirk
