Folks,

In the interests of keeping YPNG alive I'll give a talk about a cute convexity inequality due to Davis.
The attached handout contains all the necessary theory.

The reason for the talk is a short note by Rivin (https://arxiv.org/abs/1010.2193 <https://arxiv.org/abs/1010.2193>) claiming that the famous Golden-Thompson inequality
is a simple consequence of the Davis inequality. Unfortunately I no longer follow Rivin's argument. I am hoping someone will be able to enlighten me.

I'll tell you what Golden-Thompson asserts, or at least what I think it asserts.
