Dear all,
Thank you to those who were able to attend last week's MARCXML demo session!
This demo session occurred because members of the Archival and Manuscript Description Committee, in consultation with Mark Custer and the ArchivesSpace team, have been working to improve the MARCXML export from ArchivesSpace and incorporate that export process into Yale's archival description workflow. That process is now up and running, and Mark demoed it on September 12.
Please find Mark's slides attached. A recording of the demo, with captions, is available here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2KiDd_nw884
If you'd like to start using the procedures, the files are available online here: https://github.com/YaleArchivesSpace/ASpace-plus-MARC<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2FYaleArchivesSpace%2FASpace-plus-MARC&data=02%7C01%7Cstephanie.bredbenner%40yale.edu%7C8e69d4ece53f4b22625208d73864ea07%7Cdd8cbebb21394df8b4114e3e87abeb5c%7C0%7C0%7C637039878381091038&sdata=x6zwomc8mdIbZccmg9bR3QyV9xGXhckcyohBhCLZgL4%3D&reserved=0>. The readme file outlines the process and includes a link to detailed documentation about how to set up the process. Mark Custer and Stephanie Bredbenner can answer questions about the setup process (although Mark is out of the office for the next two weeks).
Finally, here are some FAQs that arose during the demo session:
* Where can I get the files?
* The files are available here: https://github.com/YaleArchivesSpace/ASpace-plus-MARC<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fgithub.com%2FYaleArchivesSpace%2FASpace-plus-MARC&data=02%7C01%7Cstephanie.bredbenner%40yale.edu%7C8e69d4ece53f4b22625208d73864ea07%7Cdd8cbebb21394df8b4114e3e87abeb5c%7C0%7C0%7C637039878381091038&sdata=x6zwomc8mdIbZccmg9bR3QyV9xGXhckcyohBhCLZgL4%3D&reserved=0>; if you'd like to use the process, please download all files to your computer and review the readme file.
* What do I do if I have problems getting set up?
* Information about the setup process is available here (and linked at the bottom of the readme file): MARCXML Export Documentation<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fdocs.google.com%2Fdocument%2Fd%2F189W6dSrjhmmDly6woaxEKZCwVZXhmpIVbFnlCcuEkE4%2Fedit%3Fusp%3Dsharing&data=02%7C01%7Cstephanie.bredbenner%40yale.edu%7C8e69d4ece53f4b22625208d73864ea07%7Cdd8cbebb21394df8b4114e3e87abeb5c%7C0%7C0%7C637039878381101026&sdata=Jgo8rSk0QSblETUITYd%2F99RZqxapf5iza9TluqPKeQI%3D&reserved=0>. Staff are welcome to contact Mark Custer or Stephanie Bredbenner with setup issues.
* Does this process also create a holdings record (mfhd)?
* No, it does not. Holdings records and item records (if needed) need to be created manually. That may be a future feature of this process, but it is not yet included.
Please let me know if you have questions,
Stephanie
