inquiry on c. 50s-60s film

A colleague is looking for info on the following film, it sounds like it
would be 1950s-1960s, Japanese production, starring a"reasonably
well-known American actor?" I'm thinking this is more touchy-feely than
Oshima's "Shiiku?"
